O’Harrow Construction was founded by the O’Harrow Brothers in 1946 in Jackson, Michigan. At that time the firm specialized in constructing gasoline stations, but quickly grew into the commercial and industrial construction market. In the early 1950's Marv Swanson joined O’Harrow, and in 1955 purchased the firm. The Swanson Family Group retains sole ownership, and Marv remains active as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Over the years we have continued to grow adding municipal, institutional and healthcare facilities to our list of successfully completed projects. At last count we have completed over 2,500 projects in 11 states. During this time we have never had a claim filed against our bonds, or have been the target of a lawsuit for performance.

Our firm has developed a strong design/build capability. We are known for our ability to deliver practical solutions to difficult projects. Our fast paced construction is due in part to the investment we have made in plant and equipment. We have always strived to own and operate a fleet of modern and well maintained equipment. Today we own over 50 pieces of heavy equipment along with the supporting transporters and miscellaneous small equipment and hand tools.

Early on we recognized the value of having the capability to fabricate structural and miscellaneous steel. In 1958 we organized Swan Steel Company primarily to service O’Harrow projects. Swan Steel has increased its capacity and is capable of serving not only O’Harrow, but providing fabrication services to the construction industry in Michigan and the surrounding area. Swan Steel gives us the ability to deliver our projects faster and more economically by moving those structural items off the critical path.

In 1979 we teamed up with Varco-Pruden, the world’s leading producer of pre-engineered buildings and services. Pre-engineered buildings have become a major component in our market share. O’Harrow now captures a major portion of the market share for pre-engineered buildings and has been ranked nationwide as a top 100 builder for the past 8 years.

We have developed a capable and stable staff who, along with our trusted vendors and suppliers, and our physical plant and equipment are eager to continue our tradition of building for lasting value into the 21^st Century.
